This is a sketch depicting graves at the Col de la Chipotte, which was a significant battlefield during the Battle of the Frontiers in World War I. The date is noted as October 10, 1914. So these are a type of trench art, the soldiers would have partaken in drawing and crafting to fill time. This trench art has providing an insight into trench life. This particular location saw intense fighting between French and German forces in late August and September 1914. These are German graves in France the image memorialises the soldiers buried there following those brutal conflicts.
